I focus on how individuals, organizations, and communities can increase leadership capacity to address critical issues.

My writing empowers individuals, organizations, and communities to address critical issues through increased leadership capacity. We can’t build a better future without understanding the challenges we face. These challenges come in many forms: social, economic, environmental, cultural, technological, and beyond. Only by recognizing the pressing issues and seeing them objectively can we find innovative and appropriate solutions.

Something else happens when we understand the complex problems of our world. Empathy grows. We develop a shared commitment to real-world solutions. A deep understanding of the challenges we face together enables the kind of collaboration that makes a better tomorrow possible.

Issue leadership: Establishing a domain for a food systems leadership model

Society depends on a robust food system. Many obstacles to such a system exist, however, in the form of political, environmental, and human capital limitations. Using a Delphi process and the support of experts, the Issue Leadership model was developed to confront these challenges. This robust model outlines 106 unique competencies within 7 primary themes and 39 subthemes. It is an approach that allows for effective leadership to guide agriculture and food systems.

By offering an extension professionalization scale that features two primary factors: awareness of the need for professionalization and operational integration, this study helps the industry be served with consistency and rigor.
