Kevan Lamm in the field

My work as a researcher and educator brings together the corporate world, environmental sciences, and agriculture. This unique combination of experiences has shaped my understanding of the world.

The passion for agriculture that drives my work today has its roots in my earliest experiences. I grew up on a small cattle ranch in northern Colorado, seeing the importance of agriculture first hand. Those lessons continue to guide me as I consult with Fortune 500 companies to blend cutting edge innovation and old fashioned hard work.

Corporate operations are endlessly complex. I’ve worked with companies across a range of industries, including finance, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications, gaining valuable experience from each. Along the way, the lessons I’ve learned have helped me bridge the significant gap between the corporate, agricultural, and educational sectors. I am passionate about building a future where success can be measured by financial outcomes, as well as a healthy planet and engaged, fulfilled individuals.

These challenges cannot be tackled by any one person or group. It takes experts from many fields to affect real change. I believe in the power of collaboration to achieve what would be impossible for an individual.

I also believe in our collective responsibility for the future. This is a guiding principle for my education and research activities. Sharing the results and outputs developed through my outreach, research, and education projects is an important part of this responsibility. I’ve had the honor of connecting with audiences ranging from small local outreach presentations to large international academic conferences.

Ultimately, the pursuit of knowledge is a journey not a destination, I continue to grow and thrive on the opportunity to learn from those around me. My leadership approach is the cumulative result of the authentic connections I have formed along the way.

So, what’s next? I often think about the words of David Brooks. He writes about each of us having two lives, one focused on our resume accomplishments and one focused on our legacy - what others might say about us when we are gone. If I can help others to feel more empowered to lead with courage and integrity and if those individuals can help to make a positive change in the world, I would consider that to be an incredibly successful legacy.
